Mamuad 1 Joseph Mamuad ELI 121 Ms. Seeber November 1 8 , 2023 Fueling the Future: Gas Vehicles and Electric Vehicles The world today is faced with a lot of environmental issues and energy concerns . As climate change continues to be an urgent concern all over the world, the question remains, which type of vehicle is more environmentally friendly, gas - powered vehicles or electric vehicles ? The choice between gasoline - powered vehicles and electric vehicles is no longer solely a matter of personal preference but a decision that will have a significant impact on the environment . These vehicles both have advantages and disadvantages . It is important to look at the impact of gas oline - powered vehicles and electric vehicles on the environment, economy, and well - being of people . While gas oline - powered vehicles have dominated the roads for a long time, it should be recognized that electric vehicles offer a more sustainable alternative to transportation . This paper will argue that electric vehicles are the future of transportation as th ese vehicles reduce carbon emissions, promote energy efficiency, and lead the way to an environmentally friendly future. The gasoline - powered vehicles have long been the dominant and traditional means of transportation . Using a gas - powered vehicle is easy and this has been the norm for a long time. With unlimited driving range , one can simply gas up and drive , which is advantageous for long - distance travel . However, one cannot ignore the impact of gas - powered vehicles on the environment because the se veh i cles are a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s article titled Greenhouse Gas

Mamuad 2 Emissions from a Typical Passenger Vehicle , g asoline - powered vehicles produce carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide . When a vehicle is running, it emits these gases through its tailpipe and trap ping heat in the atmosphere, contribut ing to global warming . The rise in global temperature causes glaciers to melt, increase sea levels, and produce extreme weather conditions. Gasoline - powered vehicles have been a reliable means of transportation for decades . But, the reliance on petroleum for gasoline - powered vehicles creates a strain on the environment . The process of extracting and refining petroleum consumes a lot of energy which contributes to the reduction of the Earth’s natural reserves that cause environmental degradation (Ramirez). With the advancement in technology, automakers introduced electric vehicles . The pressing issues in the environment have made electric vehicles a possible option to reduce greenhouse emissions . Electric vehicles draw power from electricity stored in rechargeable batteries (“Electric vs . Fuel ”) . These type s of vehicles ha ve the potential to reduce greenhouse emissions because this kind of technology do not depend on fuel as a driving force. Since there is no fuel used to power - up electric vehicles, the re are no harmful gases released into the atmosphere, which contribute to air pollution and climate change . Using an electric vehicle will help reduce air pollution , leading to cleaner air and improved public health, especially in densely populated urban areas. Electric vehicles are also more energy - efficient than gas oline - powered vehicles (Nanaki 1 3 ) . I t converts a high percentage of energy stored in the batteries into driving power while gas vehicles waste energy and convert it to heat released into the atmosphere . Furthermore , electric vehicles have instant torque that makes them accelerate smoothly and fast . T his feature also provides the driver of the vehicle with a more enjoyable driving experience. It is a quick and powerful response once the accelerator is stepped on providing a thrilling driving experience. Moreover , electric vehicles have quieter engines than gas oline - powered vehicles
