Activity A: Types of water pollution Gel the Gz-no ready • Check that the TYPE tab and Toxic po lution are selected. Question: What are the main types of water p d lution? 1. Read and earn: Besides tone po Jtion, the other types of pollution are sediment pal lution nutrient pollution and bacterial pollution. You have already described toxic pollution on the previous page. Read about the other types, and describe each in your own wads. Sediment pollution Description: sediment pollution is when the waterways are eroded by sell usually during heavy rainfall. sediments can pile up in reservoirs, rivers, and harbors. Causes: it is caused by soil erosion into waterways during rainfall Consequences: this can destroy fish and widlife habitatsand cloud the waters and block sunlight which can interfere wth ocher aquatic plants Nutrient pollution Desorption: nutrient pollution is the presence of excessive nutrients that are in the water. Causes: high concentrations of nutrient po uten like nitrogen and phosphorous may promote expies ve algal growth. Consequences: when the algae dies, the process cf decomposition consumes oxygen ttfiich leads to hypoxia this is lovj-oxygen conditions which cna kill fish and ether aquatic organisms Bacterial pollution Description: bacterial pollution refers to tiny organisms that often aid in pollution control by breaking down the organic matter in sewage, oil spills, or other pollutants.
