Research Proposal PSY CH 610 Research Proposal Introduction Research proposal is best described as a request of support to push through with a meticulous investigation or study of a topic. A proposal like this aims to provide answers to questions of the research, encourage to conduct a study on a predetermined topic and to integrate accurate data to support the points it proposed. The main role or purpose of this research proposal is to convince people on the significance of warranting future investigations. It further aims to persuade individuals that the methods used in the research study are suitable and feasible enough in giving fruitful and genuine results. Statement of the Problem For the past years, the number of immigrants in the United States has drastically increased. The effects of this immigration were highly visible on the US economy and the society in general. However, the real situation of the young immigrants was not elaborated. This research focuses on this problem. One out of five children in US is a product of immigration. The number of immigrant children in the country has perceived to climb by 300% between 1970 and 2000 (Morse, 2005).

Immigration affects both the parents and the children. Several effects of immigration include stress resulting from the need to move out from their familiar setting and live a whole new social setting, culture, place and language. In this matter, a lot of immigrant children struggles their way into their journey to United States. This is basically due to these people’s lack of capacity to re - establish themselves in the new environment. They tend to feel the support they get from their new home is not as intense as the support they had from their relatives and friends. Stress among adolescent immigrants is worse than those amongst young folks. This is brought by the cultural rejection they need to overcome to be able to jive with the new setting. Unlike children, adolescent immigrants are clever and smart enough to set a balance between family and adaptation. McCarthy (2011) claimed that connection and acceptance from the society are significant factors of the development of an adolescent. Those who failed to harmonize meaningfully to their friends, family and community are more vulnerable to suicide, abuse, drop - out, health complication and anti - life activities. Review or Literature People who immigrate to the US have different behavior and personality. These people lived culture different from others. Some of them lack quality education. They might be literate but the education level that some of these immigrants tend to be little (McDonnell & Hill, 1993). Reviews assume that most immigrant children are able to adapt to the new setting or environment (Fuligni, 1997). However, these adolescent immigrants are perceived to have a hard time moving out from low self - efficacy. These individuals even isolate themselves from a larger group.
