Anatomy and Physiology42 CardsCreated 2 months ago

Embryonic connective tissue with sparse, star-shaped cells in a gel-like ground substance. Serves as the origin for all connective tissue types. Found in the umbilical cord (Wharton's jelly); rich in ground substance with few collagen fibers and fibroblasts. Loosely arranged collagen, elastic, and reticular fibers. Trichrome stain highlights collagen in blue/green, making fiber distribution and cell types easy to identify.
