They make it relatively easy for you totake the test at a location not too far away. In fact, even if you are in prison, the ACT allows for special accommodations for you to be tested. There arefour things most students should consider when picking a location:How Is It Scored?Register early to ensure you don’t get closed out of a location that appealsto you.1.High schools often have larger desks than colleges, which makes it easierto fully open your test booklet instead of only being able to have a singlepage open at a time.2.If you are someone who likes to take the test in familiar surroundings, see ifthe test is offered at your high school. If it is not, you may want to check outyour test location before the actual ACT so you can be calmer on test day.3.If you find that being around people you know makes you feel morecompetitive stress during the ACT, take the test at a location where youwon’t know many people.4.

There is NO GUESSING PENALTY on the ACT, so be certain that you do notleave any answer blank! The ACT is scored on a curved scale from 1−36, with 1 being terrible and 36perfect. The average test taker scores around 21−22. Each of the four requiredsections—English, Math, Reading, and Science—is scored from 1−36. The ACTadjusts the curve with each test to ensure that the results from one testindicate the same level of ability as the results from another. The overallcomposite score is found by taking a simple average of the four section scoresand is rounded up if applicable. The ACT Writing section is reportedseparately on the score report, but it does not affect the overall compositescore.Should I Take the Writing Test?If you don’t know where you are planning to apply to school, go ahead andtake the Writing Test so you can keep your options open. If you know whereyou will be applying to school, take a look at the ACT website for the latestinformation on how particular colleges use the ACT Writing results:https://actapps.act.org/writPrefRM/How Do I Receive My Scores? If you register online, you will typically be able to access your score reportapproximately 3 weeks after your test date.
