EMS Implementation 2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Through a process of extensive internal assessment, external support and analyzation of cultural t rends, Riordan Manufacturing have identified waste reduction, recycling of plastic waste and reduction in energy use as the three primary areas of focus for its sustainability initiative. To support the corporate initiative, the company will focus its attention on several activities that support the outlined three areas of focus. The elimination of standby power will help reduce our energy use and the installation of solar panels will support the company initiative to use more renewable energy. Reducing the use of shrink wrap within the organization and recycling used shrink wrap are activities which support the corporate initiative to reduce plastic use and waste. Each initiative and actionable item must be cost effective. The return on investment for each activity must be within the guidelines set by Riordan management. The work of individual employees is going to dictate the success of each initiative. Riordan will provide training and support for each affected employee to help them meet company goals. Riordan hopes by involving all stakeholders affected by the plan, providing support to each employee, and modifying the plan where needed, it will be successful in its approach to a sustainable environment. Moreover, regenerating air quality, and improving energy conservation are the key factors to focus on. For the sustainability plan to become successful, Riordan needs to compare its initial costs and the long - term benefits. This will then provide the organization with the best business practices and recommendations for a successful improvement. The goal of Riordan Manufacturing is to provide sustainable business practices and organizational growth.

EMS Implementation 3 Riordan Manufacturing also has goals to have strong sustainability measures. Barriers have been identified and solutions to those barriers have also been established. Methods and practices have also been put into place. WEEK3: Current Business Practices Audit As an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding, Riordan Manufacturing vice president of operations, Mark Neitzel wants to ensure Riordan stays a leader in the field of plastic injection molding. Mr. Neitzel has decided to take a look at the current business practices company - wide which includes locations in San Jose California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan, and Hangzhou, China. By analyzing the firm’s current business practices and specifying aspects of the business that would benefit from the implementation of a sustainability plan, Mr. Neitzel hopes the company can make not only environmental improvements in each of their locations but also cost saving improvements. Non - sustainable Practices The three non - sustainable practices that will be focused on for this sustainability report are recycling of plastics, reducing hazardous waste, and conserving energy from lighting and equipment use. These three sustainability practices will be assessed across all locations of Riordan Manufacturing. This report will include the non - sustainable practices and how they are present at each plant, why the practices are not sustainable, and identify state and federal regulations to which Riordan must adhere and describe if the company is compliant or what they should do to become compliant. Finally, this report will also include the sustainability study process overviews from each of the plants in California, Georgia, Michigan, and China. Riordan Manufacturing will benefit from this sustainability plan by moving to more sustainable business practices.

EMS Implementation 4 Description of Each Non - sustainable Practice at Each Plant When examining the presence of the non - sustainability practices at the various Riordan Plants, recycling of plastics is the first business practice identified as an area of change. Recycling of plastics occurs at the Georgia, Michigan and China plants in the departments of molding and trimming. During the molding process scrap plastic, off spec - products and purge material are collected and reused. This is caused by the outputs of scrap plastic or flashing managed as waste and plastic material used to purge the equipment before a color change and managed as solid waste. The Michigan molding department makes custom molds where the excess plastic attached to the part is then trimmed with a mechanical shear. The difference for this plant is that scrap plastic, off - spec product, and purge material are collected and thrown away. In China the molding department produces plastic fan blades which are then sent to the trimming department. While the outputs are the same as Georgia and Michigan, Riordan’s Chinese partners handle the recycling of plastics process. Reducing hazardous waste is another area identified for change for all three plants. The divisions of Georgia, Michigan and China deals with the practice of hazardous waste management in the departments of molding, trimming, labeling, packaging, and the shipping department. Michigan has additional areas of hazardous waste management which includes the mixing and assembly departments. All departments for the three Riordan plants deals with outputs of spent cleaners and mold release agents that may create ai r pollution from volatile organic compound emissions and managed as hazardous waste along with used oils managed as industrial waste and spent cleaners and mold release agents managed as hazardous waste. The sustainability process in place for Georgia and Michigan is to have the used oils collected by a
