Strategic Management: Analyzing Company Evolution, Mission, and Vision Statements Discussion 1, Week 1 Provide an example of an industry or company that has changed its strategy over time as environmental factors such as technology, competition, and consumer preferences have changed. With the every rising prices of gas the automotive industry has changed dramatically since 2002. To give an example is the phase out process of the Hummer brand. Since gas prices and have soared less people are buying large SUV’s and this was the downfall of the Hummer. Hummer’s are not designed to be environmental friendly with their large consumption of fuel and higher emissions. Today government offers great tax incentives to eco friendly cars that get high gas mileage or even electric and because technology has not advanced to keep up with the demand for these cars the government has stepped in to offer incentives to keep the price where the average American can still afford them. As our text states that a company’s strategy is not a onetime event, but one that is always a work in progress (Gamble, 2011). The car industry is a prime example how environment, technology, competition or consumer preferences can change the way they operate. Gamble, E., Thompson, A., (2011). Essentials of Strategic Management, New York, NY: McGraw - Hill/Irwin. Discussion 2, Week 1 Share the vision and mission statement of your firm (or one with which you are familiar). 47 th CST Mission Statement The CST organization is designed to augment local and regional terrorism response capabilities in events known or suspected to involve Weapons of Mass Destruction. WMD events are incidents involving hostile use of chemicals (such as nerve or blister agents, or toxic industrial chemicals - TICs), biological (for example, anthrax or ricin), or radiological source. The CST deploys to an area of operations to: Assess a suspected chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high yield explosive (CBRNE) event in support of a local Incident Commander. Advise civilian responders regarding appropriate response actions. Assist in expediting arrival of additional state and federal assets to help save lives, prevent human suffering, and mitigate property damage. How is that vision and mission statement communicated to employees and the public ?

While the mission statement of the 47 th CST is different than almost any other mission statement of a civilian company it does provide the information needed for their employees and anyone that may need their services. What is the role of the vision and mission statement in driving the activities of the firm? It gives a clear a precise mission of the activates of the 47 th CST to the employees and the public explaining is small detail what their exact purpose is. By their mission statement one understands that they are a first response unit that activates to assist with local authorities in the case of a natural disaster or terrorist activities. 1.
