What are the strengths and weaknesses of each option? How does each of the two choices fit with the organization? I feel an environmental scan can certainly be applicable to Kudler. Kudler would be able implement specific search strategies in order to receive competitive intelligence rather quickly and without paying much. In this capacity, Kudler can discover information pertaining to new products and trends. Kudler can also utilize Porter’s competitive forces model in order to analyze the competition. Kudler would be able to respond to the strategy of competition through the utilization of a cost leadership strategy that has low prices and a differentiation strategy by establishing the company as unique. The company can also implement a focus strategy and narrow its overall scope, if necessary; this would be beneficial since Kudler’s customers are focused on quality and purchasing specialized items. The weaknesses of these strategies, however, include the possibility of customers feeling that the store is too exclusive. Additionally, Kudler may be focusing on the wrong customers and/or locations. The analysis component, though relatively uncomplicated, may still use up too many resources. It seems that Kudler is in a good position in order to utilize its resources to establish themselves within their niche market.
