Engaging Action Verbs: A Fun and Interactive Speaking Activity for Beginner Learners Marks: 1 Think of a game or activity which could help young learners develop their speaking skills (do not use those already mentioned in the module) and describe, step by step, how you would play it with your class. Note: in this game/activity the learners should talk to each other using sentences rather than single words. The class is beginner or elementary level. (Please write a minimum of 100 words) Game/Activity for Speaking Skills: Name of Game: “Verb Relay Race” Objective: This game helps young learners practice speaking in full sentences while using action verbs. How to Play: 1. Preparation: Write the 6 target action verbs (e.g., jump, run, clap, swim, sing, dance) on individual cards or pieces of paper. Make sure the students have enough space to move. 2. Warm - up: Start with a quick review of basic action verbs they may already know (e.g., play, walk, talk). Have the students repeat each verb after you and demonstrate the actions. 3. Instructions: Divide the class into two teams. Each team lines up at one end of the room. On the other side, place the action verb cards. One student from each team runs to the cards, picks one, and performs the action. Then, they must form a sentence using the verb, like “I am jumping,” and return to their team. 4. Team Practice: The next student in line will then run, pick a new verb, perform the action, and say a sentence. 5. Objective: The first team to finish all 6 actions correctly wins the game. You are teaching a mono lingual class of 8 year olds. There are 20 students in the class. This is the beginning of their second year of learning English. Write a 45 minute lesson plan with the following objective: Objective: For students to learn and practise 6 new action verbs Please include the following information: Target language (list the action verbs you will teach) Assumed knowledge (for example, list some vocabulary and grammatical structures the students already know, which can be of use during the lesson) Anticipated problems Solutions
