1 Understanding Cerebral Palsy: Impacts on Motor Development and Role of Early Childhood Educators 1. Cerebral palsy is the most common motor disability among children of all ages. Explain how typical gross - and fine - motor development can be impacted by cerebral palsy. Answer : - Cerebral palsy which is caused as a result of brain damage - caused by injury in brain or abnormal development of the brain which takes place in course of the gradual development of a child’s brain – be it before birth, during birth or just after birth and its impact on typical gross and fine motor development cab hinder body movement, muscle control, muscle co - ordination, tone, reflex, posture and balance. Trio natural functions like fine motor skills, gross motor skills and oral motor functioning are impacted by cerebral palsy. There is no life thread though it can damage the brain which is incurable and most children can live well while no further injury to the brain is caused in future .The damage done once to the brain is unchangeable .The effects are not temporary but long termed and therefore patients will have to suffer during their lifespan. 2. What is branching? What is the relationship between branching and developing appropriate goals and objectives? What purpose does branching play in an inclusive setting? Answer:”Branching” means a proces s of forming a branch and there fore ‘Branching’ here in relationship to “cerebral palsy” means the well thought forming of a branch or many branches as per the need of the situational demand of any patient - suffering from this disease and as such the relationship between branching and developing appropriate goals and objectives is very important as improper branching will not help to find out any ultimate solution. In an ‘inclusive setting’ – branching serves the main as well as the most important purpose to find out the way or ways to cope up with the damages – caused by cerebral palsy not as a whole but by part and in a gradual process . 3. As an early childhood educator, what is your role in assessing motor development concerns? What should you be looking for? What considerations related to individual children should you keep in mind? Answer: Motor development can be divided into trio broad categories like a) physical development, b) cognitive development and c) social emotional development. So, at first, as an early childhood educator I am to find out the exact type of crisis – prevalent in any one or two or in all the trio factors as a whole. Early childhood development has three age categories – 1) From birth up to three years, 2 ) three to five years of age and 3 ) six to eight years.
