Network+ N10-009 Encapsulation and Decapsulation

Information Technology10 CardsCreated 8 months ago

Encapsulation is the process where each layer in the OSI model wraps data with its own header—and sometimes a trailer—before passing it down to the next layer; this prepares the data for transmission and enables proper routing, addressing, and error checking. ([turn0search0], [turn0search22])

Used to tear down the virtual connections created using the three-wey handshake and the SYN flag.

SYN (Synchronization)

Used to synchronize connection during the three-way hadnshake.

Used to ensure data is given priority and is processed at the sending or receiving ends.,

URG (Urgent)

Similiar to PSH and identifies incoming data as urgent.

Mac Address

Physical address that is used to identify a network card on a local area network.

EtherType

Used to indicate which protocol is encapsulated in the payload of a frame.
