A Personal Area Network (PAN) is the smallest type of network—either wired or wireless—that connects personal devices within very close proximity, typically within a few meters (around 10 m or 33 ft). Common examples include Bluetooth connections between a smartphone and headset or USB linkage between a laptop and external drive.
