. If it is used too much it may then undermine the value of the activity and therefore players just compete for the reward
. Extrinsic rewards may create pressure and if reward is not gained then motivation can be lost. The same pressure may also promote cheating

What is the advantage to intrinsic motives?

. Intrinsic rewards are more effective, stronger, and longer lasting. They give more satisfaction and pride and a sense of control

How can a coach motivate a performer?

. Rewards, praise and positive reinforcement
. Make the task more fun
. Make sure performer can succeed
. Point out the benefits of exercise
. Negative reinforcement
. Set attainable goals
. Point out role models
. Break the task down
