World Religions 2 Welcome to WritePoint, the automated review system that recognizes errors most commonly made by university students in academic essays. The system embeds comments into your paper and suggests possible changes in grammar and style. Please evaluate each comment carefully to ensure that the suggested change is appropriate for your paper, but remember that your instructor's preferences for style and format prevail. You will also need to review your own citations and references since WritePoint capability in this area is limited. Thank you for using WritePoint. World Religions 3 I recently had the opportunity to learn about a religion I knew little about, Hinduism. I also had the opportunity to interview a friend who practices Hinduism and attend her place of worship. My visit was a wonderful experience that I would encourage anyone to take advantage of if given the opportunity. Even though some may think that learning about other religions decreases the faith they have in their God, everyone should consider learning about other religions because it increases compassion and understanding and encourages tolerance of everyone's religious beliefs . Hinduism is the oldest and third largest organized religion in the world. (BBC, 2008). Hinduism originated in Pakistan and is the most common religion in India. Approximately 80% of the people in India are Hindu. Hinduism has a very long and complicated history. The history includes a blend of ancient legends, customs, and beliefs. These customs and beliefs have evolved today to create many different creeds. Hindus religious texts are known as the Vedas. Hindus believe Brahman is the creator of all existence and exists in everything; however, they worship other deities, such as Hanuman, Shiva, Lakshmi, and Ram. They see different aspects of Brahman in each of these. They believe that life is based on karma and reincarnation. They believe one’s reincarnation is based on how they lived their previous life. These are fairly fundamental beliefs of the Hindu people; however, their viewpoint on certain ethics may differ. According to the Axia text, “Although there is no single founder, devotional tradition, or philosophy which can be said to define Sanatana Dharma, everyday life is so imbued with spiritually meaningful aspects that spirituality is never far from one’s mind” (Axia, 2008). Some of those aspects include rituals, religious festivals, castes and social duties, fasting, prayer, and reverence paid to trees and rivers.
