Running head: WEEK 8 ASSIGNMENT-MORALITY & LAW1Week 8 Assignment-Morality & LawADJ/215Week 8 Assignment-Morality & Law1.Under what circumstances, if any, might the legalization or decriminalizationof drugs be beneficial to society?a.There are individuals who think that if drugs were legalized then they would notbe as harmful to our society. They say this because the way that drugs are illegalright now, those who sell the drugs can charge whatever they want for the drugs. With this being the case, an addict will overlook the truly important things to bepaid for (i.e. food, rent, clothes, or any other essential item to basic humanneeds)and spend as much money as they can in order to get their next high. When theydo this, they not only hurting themselves by destroying their bodies, but they arealso hurting the ones that they love.b.When drugs are illegal, the price of the drugs can grow to outrageous numbers ifthe demand is high enough and as such, an addict will do whatever they can inorder to get their next high and that includes committing crimes such as theft, robbery, or burglary, just to name a few. If drugs were legalized, I think that therewould be much cheaper than they are now and states could regulate the drugsthemselves and make much needed money to help balance the state’s budget, butshould drugs be legalized, I think that more people would be addicts due to the

The cheaper something is, the more someone will buy and if theybuy in large quantities, they will consume them in large quantities as well.c.Reference:http://www.druglibrary.org/special/goode/bpr6.htm2.Do you consider alcohol a drug? Should greater control be placed on the sale ofalcohol?a.This is an interesting question. Personally I do in fact think that alcohol is a drug, but I know many, many people who would wholeheartedly disagree with me onthis topic. I believe alcohol is a drugbecause alcohol has an age restriction andwhen consumed regularly, individuals can become addicted and when theybecome addicted to alcohol, they will do whatever they can in order to get theirnext buzz just as a pill addict will do for their next high. Alcohol is extremelydangerous because people can see it as just another beverage and will consumedrink after drink and when they get drunk, they can make some life alteringdecisions not only for themselves, but for others as well.b.For people that do not think that alcohol is a drug, I will point them toward theFood and Drug Administration (FDA), who has in fact classified alcohol as adrug. Iwill be honest and say that I have indulged in a few beverages from time totime, but unlike others, I know my limit and can stop after a drink or two. It isthose individuals who do not have that self control that are more likely to becomeaddicted, or binge drink. With alcohol being so readily available and how about40 percent of violent crimes in our country linked to alcohol abuse in some way, Ithink that the FDA should have even stronger restrictions on alcohol.
