SOCIETY RESPONSE TO CRIME2process of restorative was invented to help all the stakeholders in the justice system. This meantthat the process would be very helpful to the victims, society and the suspects themselves (Van& Strong, 2013).Restorative justice, therefore, is a step that seeks to include the corporation and thevictims in a procedure that pronounces and holds the offender responsible for the harms thatwere caused by their actions or words. In most of the circumstances, the offenders are addressedwith the community and the victims to know what the story behind what took place. The purposeof the meetings is to establish the conditions that made the offender carry out the crime. The nextstep in laying down the causes of the offense is to look for possible solutions where the offendercan be assisted incorrect their faults and live peacefully with the members of the society. Theoutcome of the meetings is the offender offering to make right their actions by participating inthe form of community service. The method of restorative justice has been used, and the actionsof the suspects and offenders are looked into by the law enforcement agencies to ensure that thecommunity serviceschedule is properly adhered to (Johnstone, 2013).Restorative justice has a minimal percentage of influencing the character of the offender;therefore it has a small capability of reducing the offender recidivism. According to research theprocess had an impact on only three percent of the population of offenders who underwent theprogram. The program was however very efficient for the adult suspects and criminals. Theprovision of a form of community service to the suspects played an integral part in defining theirchange in character (Johnstone, 2013).A study done in the city of Winnipeg revealed the effectiveness of the people whounderwent the process of restorative justice.
