Comprehensive Network Design for a Two-Story University Building: Topology, Security, and Infrastructure Planning - Page 3 preview imageNetwork DesignWith the acquisition of a two storey building in Adelphi, Marylandit provides thesignificant opportunity for a new network topology to be devised and implemented sothat there is consistent connectivity across each of the rooms as well as an overallsecurity concept devised around the segregation of data.As this is one of the most crucial requirements to ensure that the student andstaff computers and networks are separated then therewill need to be different subnetscreatedforeachofthesepurposes, whilealsoallowingforstudentstoconnectwirelessly through the wireless access point which has been proposed for their lobbyarea. There is an opportunity to implement an infrastructure from scratch which willallow for the best possible cabling installation to be performed within the location. As allconnectivity, with the exception of the student lobby, is to be performed using fixedcables and physical connections then it would be recommended that Cat6A cabling isdefined as the Ethernet standard. This is due to the limitations apparent with Cat6cabling as to the maximum cable length that can be used to deliver network connectionswithout transmission issues. Cat6A will allow for over 300ft of cabling to be used withoutincurring any issues.Through the provision of a server room on each floor it will be possible toappropriately manage the connectivity that is needed foreach of the specific locations. Each room will require a certain number of data ports which are linked to a patch panel
