Implementing an Incident Response Plan, Technology Legislation, and the Impact of HITECH on Data Security • Imagine you work for a medium - sized business in the information security department and suppose you’ve determined the need to structure and impleme nt an incident response plan and team. Propose how you would make a business case for the management team, explaining why this is a needed component of the security program at the company. As there is a need to structure and implement an incident response plan and team, so we have to investigate about the whole case, and primarily concern with the security aspects to avoid any malfunction in future. Creating a structure for handling information security incidents is hard. On the one hand, there is the need to provide policies and procedures for people involved in the incident response (IR) process. On the other hand, documentation that’s too long and tedious is rarely read; moreover, it’s hard to anticipate every IR contingency when preparing the documents. This incident response plan defines what constitutes a security incident and outlines the incident response phases. This incident response plan document discusses how information is passed to the appropriate personnel, assessment of the incident, minimi z ing damage and response strategy, documentation, and preservation of evidence. The incident response plan will define areas of responsibility and establish procedures for handling various security incidents. This policy is designed to protect the organizational resources against intrusion. This is important because of: • Verify that an incident occurred. • Maintain or Restore Business Continuity. • Reduce the incident impact. • Determine how the attack was done ir the incident happened. • Prevent future attacks or incidents.
