    Poster Presentation Assignment Version A Learning Outcomes • Demonstrate critical thinking and reflective practice while providing individualized, culturally competent, person-centered care • Integrate nursing theories, conceptual frameworks and evidence-based practice while planning care of individuals • Discuss the practice of nursing and nursing values and how they relate to the role and scope of the Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta Learning Objectives • Please see the Course Offering Information for learning objectives in module 2: • Module 2: Learning Objectives 1, 2, 4 Directions The poster presentation assignment will be completed in teams of 4 to 5 learners (your instructor will create the teams). Each team will be assigned a particular nursing theorist by their instructor. The team will be responsible for creating a poster presentation about their assigned nursing theorist. Each team will present their poster to the class during a 15-minute presentation. The date and time of the presentation will be determined by the instructor. This assignment is worth 10 % of the overall grade in the course. 1) Review Chapter 6 in our course textbook. Pay careful attention to the information on nursing theorists. a) Thome, S. (2024). Theoretical foundations of nursing practice. In B. J. Astle & W. Duggleby (Eds.), Potter and Perry's Canadian fundamentals of nursing (7th ed., pp.73-84). Elsevier. 2) After you have been assigned to your team and nursing theorist, please access the resources on nursing theorists from the BVC Learning Commons to learn more about your assigned theorist. Peer-Reviewed Nursing Organization (Website): https://nursology.net/ 3) Each team will create a poster or virtual PowerPoint presentation answering the following questions: a) Who is your assigned nursing theorist and what is the name of the nursing theory? Which category is the theory in: Practice Based? Needs Theory? Interactionist Theory? Systems Theory? Simultaneity Theory? Describe how the nursing theorist and the theory has contributed to nursing knowledge. b) In your own words describe how the theory works. Classification: General

    c) What are the main points the theory addresses? d) Apply the theory to nursing practice: • How would a nurse use this theory when providing nursing care? Develop a scenario of a nurse and patient interaction that illustrates how the theory would be used. You may want to write a role play script of the nurse and patient interaction to provide an example of this theory in action. 4) The poster / virtual PowerPoint will include the following elements: a) Poster / PowerPoint title, author information (names of team members), content which includes the answers to the above questions using text, images, in-text citations and references of the sources you used. *Please note the images you use must be cited and referenced according to APA 7 th edition guidelines. * b) Please see this link for helpful tips on creating a poster presentation and examples of what a poster presentation looks like: https://libguides.tru.ca/academicposters/basic Helpful Tips for Poster / Virtual PowerPoint Presentations : Use pictures to show who the nursing theorist is, use diagrams to show how the theory works. Presentations should be eye catching and the key elements of the theory should be easily identifiable. You can create your poster presentation using poster sized paper or PowerPoint. The team will be presenting to the class so consider ways you can make the presentation interactive and be prepared to answer questions from your classmates and instructor. The poster / virtual PowerPoint presentation must follow APA 7 th edition guidelines for citing and referencing. For this assignment you are required to include a citation and reference for both the images and scholarly sources you use. c) A minimum of two scholarly sources must be used; one can be the course textbook with the second source being from a scholarly resource (peer-reviewed literature or other e-book), and current (no less than five years old). These two scholarly sources do not include the citations and references of the images used in the presentation. The purpose of multiple sources in academic writing is to ensure you are planning and modeling your future practice on reliable, current information provided by experts in that field, and more than one person or one team agrees that information is accurate. d) As per APA 7 th edition guidelines, the writing must be double-spaced, and use Times New Roman 12 pt. font. Tip: Type your text in a word document, print this and then cut and paste onto the poster paper rather than writing on the poster paper (if you are using PowerPoint this does not apply).
