IntroductionThe credibility of scientific inquiry is defines by the ability of a researcher to adhere tothe standards and principles of scientific research in all phases of the research process. Researchactivities, such as literature review, collection of data, analysis and presentation must be alignedwith a code of ethics that governs researchers. Ethical standards and principles are not onlyimportant for the approval of a research, but it demonstrates that the researcher preserved therights of research subjects and avoided ethical misconduct that limits the reliability of researchfindings, conclusions and recommendations for practical application. In the following sections, Idiscuss how I will apply the ethical standards and principles to ensure that my research processand the final presentation of the dissertation are credible and reliable.PlagiarismI understand that plagiarism has both negative ethical and legal implications onresearchers. Because of this, researchers are mandated to act with integrity in the process ofgathering both secondary and primary data and information of their research. In order to avoidplagiarism, I will not take any secondary data that I will obtain from existing publications ordocuments as my own. I will ensure that my literature review and the authors I cite in thediscussion of my research findings are adequately acknowledged. I will not adopt the findings ofother researchers and claim that they are my own. Doing this would be against the AmericanPsychological Association ethical standards on research and publication (AmericanPsychological Association, 2015). I will use theoretical frameworks of other researchers andtheorists to apply my research findings, but I will recognize them as the originators of the appliedtheories.

I understand that paraphrasing the works of others does not mean that it is my own work.Because of this, I will ensure that both direct quotes and paraphrases are appropriately cited andacknowledged. I will ensure that my dissertation employs both in-text citation and a list ofreferences that is based on APA guidelines. This includes acknowledging the authors(s) of thepublication that is cited, the date of publication and the publication within which it was publishedwhether it is a book or journal entry. In this sense, I will allow the readers of my dissertation toseek the original thoughts of the authors I will cite in the relevant publications if they feel it isnecessary. Adhering to the ethical standards on research and publication I recognize that researchprocesses are built on the findings of others without violating the ethical rights of ownership topublications or legal rights, such as copyright. Through the guidance of the ethical standards onresearch and publication, I will contribute knowledge to my area of research without violatingthe rights of other researchers.I am aware that plagiarism is a form of fraud which has negative ethical and professionalimplications in academic and scholarly practice. I will therefore ensure that I avoid all forms ofplagiarism in my research and writing the dissertation manuscript. I consider honesty as anethical and personal obligation or commitment rather than just a means of achieving academicobjectives. Because of this, my need to produce original work is motivated by personal ethicalobligation for both my current research work and future research endeavors.Risk AssessmentI understand that risk assessment is one of the important requirements before anyscientific research process begins. I will discuss the possible risks of my research with mymentor and establish ways of ensuring that they do not have any negative implications on theresearch process. I will also report my risk assessment findings in order to ensure that

participants are aware of the potential risks of the study before they can decide to give consentfor their participation in the research process. Risk assessment is an important aspect of theresearch proposal process because both researchers and sponsors hold some level of liability orresponsibility for the research process and any risks that may arise (Bromley, Mikesell, Jones &Khodyakov, 2015).I will assess risks related to my research such as reputational damage in order to ensurethat there are no negative public image implications on correctional facilities and private healthcare contractors that will be involved in the research process. I will determine if the publicperception of the aforementioned organizations is affected by research process. On the basis ofthis assessment, I will ensure that the ethical standards and principles are met so that theinstitutions of corrections that will host my research will not have negative effects on their imagefor hosting unethical research. Furthermore, I will assess risks associated with the approvalboard, such as reputational damage for approving a research process that is associated ethicalmisconduct.The assessment of reputational risk assessment is important because it allows researchersto implement effective ethical safeguards against any misconduct in the process of the researchthat may lead to negative public perceptions on organizations, research funding agencies orapproval boards (Honig, Lampel, Siegel & Drnevich, 2014). For instance, the assessment ofreputational risk of my research will act as a guideline for implementing strategies of ensuringthat the research meets the quality standards that guides IRB Approval.I will also assess the risks associated with the participants. This includes possibleprejudice for participating in the research process. Doing this risk assessment is importantbecause it establishes the risks of a research process that must be communicated to participants
