    2 Introduction Heroin is an opiate drug which is synthesized from morphine. Morphine is extracted from the seeds of varieties of the opium poppy plant s . Heroin is illegal and highly addictive drug in the United States. It is also the most abused and the most rapidly acting drug. Heroin is typically sold as a brownish or white powder or as the black sticky substance and in the streets it is known as black tar heroin. This is because in Arizona , the black tar is the most common form of the drug . Mexican brown , Chiva, S kag , Big H, Hell Dust, Negra, Horse, China white , J unk , T hunder and Smack are the some other street name s of the heroin. According to some reports, pure forms of heroin are becom ing more common and widely available. The most street heroin is usually mixed with other substances or drugs such as starch, sugar, powdered milk , talc, caffeine, baking soda, cocaine or quinine (Epstein & Gfroerer, 2006 ; NIDA, 2005 and Pieper , 1996 ) . The heroin in the United States most common ly comes from Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, Mexico and Latin America . H eroin can be used by anyone, such as yo ur teacher, police officers, even your mom and dad etc . Heroin is u sually used by people who need that bit of excitement due to something depression . It is usually snorted, sniff ed, injected or smoke d up to four times a day by a heroin abuser. Intravenous injection produces the maximum effect and most rapid onset of euphoria within 7 to 8 seconds while intramuscular injection takes 5 to 8 minutes and by smoking or sniffing, the maximum effects are usually observed within 10 to 15 minutes. The most of the heroin users belongs from both genders i.e. men and women , and ranges from age 12 to 60 year olds and most of them are men. The 281,000 or 0.1 percent of persons aged 12 or older who were current heroin users in 2011 in the United States ("Results from the," ) .
