Week 8 Assignment2The Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) functions as the fundamental datacollection system for all hospital admission records (Jones et al., n.d.). The UHDDS provides astandardized reporting system which enables hospitals and healthcare organizations to submitinpatient discharge data containing essential elements for patient care and facility operations andhealthcare decision-making. The UHDDS contains essential patient information which includesdemographics, diagnoses, procedures, and discharge status that healthcare providers can locateon the patient's face sheet (Jones et al., n.d.). The UHDDS data set contains inpatient dischargerecords for patients who received care at St. Clare Hospital. The data set follows the standardformat of all data sets by including patient identifiers, diagnosis and procedure code, dischargestatus, admitting physicians, and length of stay. The Overview of UHDDS Components and Structure consists of:1. Patient demographics includes important information such as patients' ID number, gender, and age.2. Diagnosis code tells you the diagnosis of the patients and the procedure code tells you whatprocedure was performed on a specific patient during hospital stay based on theirdiagnosis.3. Discharge status indicates the patients' deposition upon discharge, determining whetherthey were treated at St. Clare's and has been discharged or had to be transported toanother facility for further care.4. Admitting physician diagnoses patients upon arrival at the hospital by performingassessments and running different tests.5. Length of stay reflect how fast care was rendered to patients.
