RELATION BETWEEN LEADER AND FOLLOWER Discuss the relationship between a leader and a follower, emphasizing the interdependence between both roles. Analyze how the role of a leader cannot exist without followers and how the balance between leadership and followership contributes to the smooth functioning of a society. In your response, explore the significance of the second - in - command and how too many leaders may lead to confusion. Provide real - world examples to support your argument. Word count requirement: 600 - 800 words. “If you are not the lead dog, the scene never changes.” By learning from this statement, the first thing that comes across our minds is that the role of the leader is the most ultimate. The importance of follower cannot be felt from the above statement. Is the scenario really the same? When gone deep into the thought, we realize that the role of the leader can only be felt when there is a follower. Leader and follower are two terms that always follow side by side. Both are interrelated. Thus, just being a leader does not make you the sole responsible person who manages the scene. There is a misconception that a leader has all the right to take decisions the way one likes, not even conside ring the situations of others. A leader cannot be self satisfying. He / She should be concerned about the whole team that follows him/her. A leader cannot be selfish and think about oneself only. Thus, being a lead dog is not an easy task. One needs to fulfill all the requirements that are pre - requisites of a leader. But, the fact remains still that a leader is nothing without a follower. As the person at the top is vital, similarly, the person second is as important. The person second accomplishes the task as well as instructs the person at the top about the duties and tasks he/she needs to fulfill. The person at the second only lacks in the vision of direction. The leader manages the mode of direction and methodology to carry out the tasks effectively. The follower prepares the rough outline and hands over the design to the leader to execute accordingly.
