Paired t - Test for Assessing Aggression Levels Before and After Intervention Assignment: t - test for two measures • Due Friday by 1:59am • Points 10 • Submitting a file upload, a text entry box, or a website url Exercise 10: t - test for two measures in a single sample As preparation for this exercise, you are strongly advised do the Time to Practice exercise 2, 5, and 6 in chapter 12, and check your work against the correct answers in the text. Test the hypothesis that the subjects were less aggressive after the intervention than before the intervention. 1. State the null and research hypotheses: Null hypothesis H0: T he subjects were not less aggressive after the intervention than before the intervention. Alternative hypothesis Ha: T he subjects were less aggressive after the intervention than before the intervention. 2. Set the level of significance, or Type 1 error, and explain what it means. Take the level of significance to be 0.05. It is the maximum type I error we could make. 3. Select the appropriate test statistic, and explain why it is appropriate. Describe the formula (12.1) for the statistic and what it means. Since the two samples are dependent, it would be appropriate to conduct a paired t - test. So, when H0 is true, the test statistic given in the following follows a t - distribution with degree of freedom df=n - 1. 1 2 ) ( 2 − −    = n D D n D T It is actually the same as the following n s x D D T / =
