The criminal justice system is designed to punish those that have broken the lawand protectsociety from them.Many will go to court, receivea jail sentence, do the time, and are released.Crime is often followed by punishment. There are important factors that must be considered.While punishment is a good thing to be set for a crime, are these prisoners really learning fromtheir mistakes? This is why rehabilitation programs are important. It is essential that people learnfrom their mistakes. They must take the correct path to ensure that they do not repeat the offense.Rehabilitation programs can help to make sure this is possible. While in a rehabilitation program,one can receive counseling, work experience, and education. Theseprograms can help them toimprovethemselves as well as others.Punishment should not be abolished complete. Punishmentshould still remain for those that show no remorse for their actions and for repeat offenders.The juvenile justice system should focus on rehabilitation programs. Juveniles will leadby example. Those that commit a crime may do so for reason or another.
