44 days- the Junko Furuta caseBy genesis MartinezThe Junko Furuta case is a murder kidnapping and sexual assault case that is known by a different numberof names, some of them being 44 days,44 days in hell, or any variant of 44. most Japanese citizens whoare aware of this case know it by ("concrete-encased high schoolgirl murder case"Before getting into the awful and gruesome details of the murder, who was Junko Furuta?Furuta was born in Misato, Japan, in Saitania Prefecture, and excelled in high school, with low absencesand excellent scores. She worked part-time during her school years to aid her family, and she had obtaineda job at an electronics store previous to her kidnapping, which she hoped to continue after graduation.Unfortunately, she never got the chance to. On top of her outstanding grades in school, Furuta was agorgeous adolescent who attracted a lot of attention, which made some of her classmates envious,a well know boy by the name of Hiroshi Miyano. with a long reputation of violence in her school, foundhimself attracted to Junko Furuta, this boy was known for having connections to the infamous yakuza (theyakuza is a well-known gang of criminals in japan, the yakuza is extremely feared by the citizens andanyone involved with them, the yakuza is an extremely dangerous gang or criminals and is mostlydescribed as the Japanese mafia). Hiroshi asked out Junko. however she politely declined hence she wasnot looking for a relationship and turned him down. Due to Hiroshi's reputation he rarely got denied,because of the fear he inflicted on others he was always given anything he desired, everyone was terrifiedof him and his connection. This included his parents.On November 25, 1988, (Juliane Cunha 10.14.2021) Miyano and his comrade, Misato set out with thepurpose of abducting and rapping local women. They observed Furuta pedalling home after she finishedher part-time job at 8:30 p.m. Misato, Miyano's buddy, was urged to kick her bicycle and flee the scene.Misato did as he was directed after she was on the ground, stunned. Hiroshi approached her and helpedher up. it is rather unclear what he offered Junko Furuta some sources say he offered her a ride homesome say he offered to walk her home, nonetheless Hiroshi and Junko were alone together. He then leadsher to a nearby camp where he proceeds to rape her. He told her everything about his ties with the yakuzaand threatened to kill her, he then proceeded to grab her and took her to a hotel where he proceed to rapeher once more.Hiroshi felt proud of what he did, after all m his twisted mind it was revenge for being rejected andhumiliated, he proceeded to call his friends to brag about what he's just done to the girl, his friendsdemanded he takes her captive so they too could "have fun" with her. The boys were able to find heraddress and used her information against her and threatened to kill her family if she attempted to runaway. Hiroshi and his friends took her to one of their friends, Mlnuto's, residence that later on became thebase of their crimes against this 17-year-old girl.When Mintao s parents came to see him, Furuta was forced to pretend to be the girlfriend of one of thekidnappers After many trips to the house, it became evident that Furuta was not someone's girlfriend, but

a hostage and the parents did nothing out of fear of retaliation from Yakuza operative Hiroshi Miyano.Minute's brother and parents were aware of the situation, but they opted not to intervene. Out of fear oftheir son and his friends.Within two days of her captivity, Junko's parents reported her missing, the boys were made aware of thepolice investigation, they took it upon themselves to stray' the officers far away from their ongoing crimes.The boys made Junko Furuta herself call her parents and lie to them saying she was safe and just decidedshe wanted to live in a friend's house, for the time being, she begged her parents to call off the policesearches and was, unfortunately, able to convince them. The boys have successfully avoided being caughtand had the freedom to do as they pleased with this teenage girl without the anxiety of policeinvestigating her whereabouts. This was just the beginning of continuous unthinkable suffering.From that day forward for the next 40 days, she was being held naked in the house for most of the time,raped by over 100 men, and assaulted by the kidnappers' associates. Furuta was raped roughly 500 times,including 12 times by 12 different guys in one day (Archana Kabra 7.6.2021.)They did much more than rape her, the}' beat her, starved her. hung her from the ceiling and used her as a'punching bag,' dropped barbells on her stomach, forced her to eat live cockroaches and digest her bodilywaste, they' forced her to masturbate in front of them and to sing and dance while being beaten. Theyburned her with cigarettes and lighters, as well as hot wax on her eyelids, the men inserted multipleforeign objects in her private parts and went far as inserting fireworks and lighting them while inside her.As a result of the assaults. Junko Furuta was alleged to have lost consciousness and had to be recoveredby putting her head in a pail of water. Even though her uterus had been severely destroyed, Furuta wasdiscovered pregnant.Junko Furuta was a brave girl, one day she was able to get her hands on the house phone and called thepolice but was caught by the men before uttering a word. Miyano claimed it was a mistake. Aspunishment for contacting the cops, they' chained her legs and burned her feet with blazing lighter fluid.She was unable to walk after 20 days of torture due to multiple leg bums and painfully injured muscles.Junko Furuta could only use her hands after her bones were smashed with weights and her fingernailswere pulled, on top of that, they forced her to sleep on the balcony, w’here she was exposed to frigidtemperatures, even after this attack.Ihara. an acquaintance of the kidnapper, was allegedly pressured into rapping the girl. Ihara told herbrother about the incident after leaving Minato's residence, who then alerted her parents, who contactedthe police. Two officers were called to Minato's house shortly after, but they were simply told that therewas no girl inside but Minato's parents offered them to have a look around. Because the parents hadinformed them no girl was inside, the cops declined the offer to investigate the house. If they' had donetheir job properly and thoroughly inspected the house regardless of Minato's parents' denial of theirclaims, Junko Furuta would still be alive today and her torture would have only lasted 16 days.For 44 days Junko had been tortured in awful and unthinkable ways and was kept alive for it all, her bodywas so bruised, burned and tom and her internal organs were so damaged all she could do was lay and
