However, allthese are dependent on the capabilities, skills and management prowess of the human resources.Through them, firms are able to implement all their key strategies in the most effective manner,which enables them to achieve favorable competitiveness in the industries of operation.GoogleInc.is one such company that has mastered the art of leveraging the inputs of its humanresources in the direction of goals and objectives accomplishment.Thispaperexamines thecompany’s human resource management approaches right from its employee selection,compensation, use of technology and relationship with the labormarkets.Company historyLarry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google Company, headquartered in Santa Clara,California, in 1996. The idea to form the firm emanated from the project they were working onjointly while still in college. The choice of the name, Google, which is a representation of thenumeral 1 succeeded by 100 zeroes, was a symbolic representation of the algorithmic nature ofits search engine operations. The company’s actual growth took off in the period after 1998 whenit was incorporated. Some key developments in its history include the launch of the Googletoolbar, mentalplex, and ad words in the year 2000. Each of these tools contributed immensely inrevolutionizing how the company interacted with its clientele in the years that would follow. Thementalplex and the toolbar were targeted at the search engine customers, whereby the former isvisualization software that enables users to get to their search results easily by offeringsuggestions. Lately, the range ofservices offered by the tech-giant has grown significantly making it one of the leadingtechnology-services companiesglobally(Google Company).Market positionIts main competitors in the search engine category are Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing. Inadvertising and social media, Facebook and Twitter top this list, and in the mobile and softwareindustries, Apple and Samsung are the main rivals. In spite of this growing competition, the firmhas been able to position its products and services in the market strategically, which is the mainfactor that contributes to this immense international growth.StrategyInnovation is the company’s main strategy and backbone. Starting from the selection andrecruitment processes to the production, supply chain management and marketing, technologymodernism remains at the center of these decisions(He, 2013). By leveraging the corecompetencies of computer science engineering and human capital, the firm has been able to setits innovative tone at levels competitors can only envy if not emulate. For example, Steiber(2014) has identified several areas of expertise at Google that promote this strategy. First in thelist are the dynamic capabilities, which enable it to keep offerings at par with the rapidenvironmental changes. The second factor, which relates to the first one, is its ability to embraceproactive change at different levels of operation. Thirdly, its ability to foster a people-centricapproach that permeates employee creativity has also been phenomenal to its growth.
