Critical Analysis of Key Political, Social, and Economic Issues: Presidential Decisions, Maternity Leave, Gender Wage Disparity, Workplace Discrimination, and the Second Gulf War 50 words each 1 - Presidents seem to have almost unlimited resources to help them make decisions, yet sometimes they make wrong decisions. What is the primary reason why President's make wrong decisions? (By wrong I mean decisions that do not work out as intended) There are many reasons why people including Presidents make wrong decisions, for example President John F. Kennedy is famous for his massive blunder over the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. Primary reasons for bad presidential decisions are faulty foresight and the possibility of incorrectly predicting the outcome of a situation. Also even though the President may have unlimited resources some of the data he receives could be in error. 2 - Take a look at this interactive map of Maternity leave on an international level at the link below: http://www.npr.org/2011/08/09/137062676/time - with - a - newborn - maternity - leave - policies - around - the - world Discuss the following: Why do you think the U.S. lags behind other nations concerning the amount of maternity/paternity leave available to workers? Do you think this policy should change? Should a change in this policy happen at the corporate or governmental level? Why or why not? The United States does lag far behind many other countries concerning the amount of maternity/paternity leave given because the United States is not considered to be a workplace family friendly nation. In my opinion this policy needs to change at a corporate level in order to facilitate the placing of a greater emphasis on the importance of the family in the United States. 3 - After reading the article posted below answer the following questions: You may have to cut and paste the link below directly into your browser http://www.portfolio.com/views/blogs/daily - brief/2011/03/01/white - house - report - on - women - reveals - salary - disparity#ixzz1RL0mjZi \ What do you think accounts for the wage disparity between men and women? According to the report even though American women are participating in the labor force much more than in previous generations and are also outpacing men in education the wage disparity seems to continue due largely to the fact that women need to leave the workplace to have children. What policy suggestions do you have to correct this issue?
