    Analyzing Shift Performance: The Impact of Variability on t-Test Significance t-Tests Imagine a shift manager at a manufacturing plant is gathering data on the number of units workers assemble during two different shifts over 10 different days. If the number of units assembled by each shift varies greatly from day to day, what impact will that have on the likelihood of a significant difference between the two shifts? Explain and support your response. As a shift manager that gathers data on the number of units that workers assemble during two different shifts over ten days you should want to know the results of each day and whether or not they vary on a daily basis. If they do vary then that is also important as well. If there is a great divide in how many units are being built between the two shifts it may point of to the manager that there is in fact a significant difference in the production between the two shifts. In our reading this week it says “When there is more than one group involved, whether the groups are related is relevant to the kind of analysis that can be performed. In this test, "independent" means that the two samples involve separate groups of people; those who are members of one group cannot also be members of the other” (Tanner, 2013). We see by this statement that depending on how the two groups are related we must figure out exactly what analysis can be performed. In this case we know that the two groups are indeed on separate shifts. If we had numbers we could figure out just exactly what the difference is on a daily basis and whether or not it is significant or not. The bigger the ratio in difference that we would see means the more and more significantly different the two shifts would be.
