Running head: Toxicology 1 Toxicology Name Instructor: Date: Based on your research, describe the three main routes of toxicant absorption in the body: inhalation, skin absorption, and ingestion. Discuss the factors that influence the absorption process for each route, and explain how the body limits the absorption of toxicants. Use specific examples from the literature to support your response. Word Count Requirement: 800 - 1000 words

Toxicology 2 Abstract All living organisms require nutrients and air which are vital for the operation and maintenance of the body system. These substances are introduced into the body of the organisms through exposure which include ingestion, inhalation and skin absorption. During processes, toxicants gets into the body by the processes among which are inhal ation, ingestion and absor ption through the skin . Though these toxicants may be present in the body, their absorption may be limited for inhalation, ingestion and absorption. This paper will describe how toxicants absorption is limited for the ingestion, inhalation and absorption. INTRODUCTION In order for a xenobiotic to produce a notable effect on the inte rnal organs and sometime exter nal organs, it must be introduced into the body system through absorption. Absorption is the procedure in which toxicants gain access to the body through ingestion and inhal ation of these substances. After absorption, the toxicants penetrate the gastrointestinal tract or the respiratory system into the deep layers and ultimately to the blood stream which transport them to different parts of the body . (2013). Absorption of toxicants . Retrieved from http://www.eoearth.org/view/article/149799 Absorption varies greatly with specific chemicals and with the route of exposure. Not all the exposure dose become the internal dose except for directly i mplanted or injected substances whose exposure dose also known as the outside dose has similar quantity as the internal dose. Three among othe r several factors affect the ab so r ption of xenobiotics and these are: chemical
