With results to prove or disprove the use of hypnosis tothe real world.Hypnosis was created on the view of mesmerism, which was created by AustrianphysicianFranz Anton Mesmer during the 18thcentury. Amir Raz, from New York StatePsychiatric Institute,uses hypnoses in his research presented in thevideo “Attention andConsciousness-Unlearning Through Hypnosis”.Throughout the history of hypnosis,there showsimprovements in the quality of life. The most significant change in the view and practice ofpsychology happened in the 20thcentury. Style changed from direct instructionto a tranceinduced (based on subtly persuasive language)(History of Hypnosis,2012).Brought about bytherapists such as Milton E. Erickson(History of Hypnosis,2012).The work of Britishpsychologists Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrellin the field of neurological science and brain imaging,linked hypnosis to Rapid Eye Movement (REM)(History of Hypnosis,2012).This has helpedresolve the “state/non-state” debate, bringinghypnosis and hypnotic trance into everyday life(History of Hypnosis,2012).Medical achievementsthroughout history have beenconductedthrough hypnosis. John Elliotson (1791-1868) reported 1,834 surgical operations without pain(Birdsong Hypnosis,2011).Even the famous Sigmund Freud became fascinatedwith hypnosisthough he abandoned it for other methods of unlocking repressed memories (Birdsong
